Dining Room Decor

As I stated in my last post, we have a lot of past projects and no documentation of any sort to show how we did any of it. So I'll just have to show you the "after" and explain.

The first thing I'll show you is the dining room. We have about three projects that went on in there.
One is an old table that someone left on the side of the road. Really banged up, and oh did I mention it's made up of random parts? It used to be dark and kind of reddish. So I won't keep you waiting any longer. Here She is....TA DA!

Isn't she gorgeous!!! I love the finished effect. To bad I can't show you the before...you'd be amazed, too.

One thing I can tell you is the supplies needed for the project. Primer, paint (we used a mis-tint from Sherwin Williams), a paint brush, and watered down dark paint (used as a glaze). Also, a smaller brush for Mod Podge. You need tissue paper, tape, computer paper, and of course, a printer.

We printed out European postmarks onto tissue paper (see a tutorial here at Full of Great Ideas) We made each separate postmark with jagged edges to make it blend better into the color of the desk. Then you Mod Podge it onto the surface (the more the better). After you have the arrangement you like, paste it over with more Mod Podge. Just be careful not to rip the tissue paper.

I found this Singer sewing machine at a garage sale this summer for $8. I'd have to say that is a pretty good deal...

 Don't you love the detailing?!

We got this from a lady my mom gardens for. It was inside her old shed, and it did not look anything like this. It was white, but it looked brown from all the dirt an dust caked on it. We cleaned it up gave it a new coat of paint and distressed it.

The antique fan and lantern were found at an auction and the trash.

These are pallet signs we made for the dining room. We sanded the wood and stained it and then stenciled letters off of Word and painted them in.

We needed the dining room to look symmetrical so we made a matching sign in Romanian because we are Romanian, and it adds extra meaning to the room.

And the finished product... actually we are also working on a pallet clock, but that's pretty much what it looks like.

  1. That old table is beautiful! I love that it's made of random parts. I have some projects I'd like to make of random parts. I found a broken down tv stand near the trash. My husband saw me eyeing it and said, "what on earth are you going to do with that." I took it home and broke it down but I know jut the thing I want to do with a couple of the parts!

And that tissue paper/mod podge bit with the Euro stamps is super clever! I love it! I'm happy to have found your blog. I see it's new. I've only had my blog for two months now and am new too. So I'm excited to see more of your posts!

  2. Your husband sounds a lot like my dad. He thinks my mom and I are crazy for collecting all the junk we find! A lot of the ideas we have are from putting together ideas found on other blogs. There is so much inspiration out there it's crazy!

    1. He he. Hey maybe we are crazy, but crazy good because what's bad about salvaging an old item and giving it a new look, right? You and me both- A lot of my inspiration also comes from other blogs and websites, where I pick and choose what I like and then make it my own.
