Boy's Vintage Car Bedroom

In the last couple of weeks I shared some rooms we have decorated this past summer. The first was a Boy's Nautical Room and then a Girl's Vintage Room. Today I have another  boy's room. This was another really fun room to put together! Emily came up with the theme and my sister gave us the go ahead, although she probably had no clue what we would come up with this time.

I love that you can take a bunch of old things, put them together and have it look so awesome!

We took some really old license plates and mixed in some newer ones for color. My husband helped us connect them after Emily came up with the arrangment.

Here's the view you get when you walk into the room.

Emily painted a pallet sign to go with the theme. She even gave it a rusty look.

We used the bunk bed from her old house, but I refinished it. At first I had planned on painting it but then decided on staining it instead. I'm so glad I did, I love the dark wood color!

Here's what it looked like before, except you can't see how scratched and drawn on it was.

We found the shelf/changing table at a yard sale. It was custom made and very sturdy. We added the baskets from Hobby Lobby. Notice the wall hanging you can barely see ?

Emily came up with this one too. It's a mechanic's chase (used to crawl under cars). We bought it and all the tools at the flea market. All the tools are attached with copper wire, hopefully the kids don't try to remove them.

Don't you just love the little yellow Tonka truck? Sad to say it had to be replaced with a red Tonka fire tuck (which I found at a yard sale) because this one belonged to my husband. I didn't know he was so attached to it, but he wanted his truck back.

I found this chair at an estate sale and was planning on painting it but then decided to keep it green for the pop of color it brought to the room.

Here's another pallet art piece that hangs at the door when you walk in the room. I made this with car parts collected at a junk yard. My husband thought I was a little weird that I was picking up this junk. I was bored and the scraps I was finding were much more interesting than just walking around after my husband (who was looking for parts).

We made the shelf out of pallet wood and stained it with Minwax dark walnut. The brackets we used to support it gives it a garage look.

Hope you have a blessed day. Let me know what you think!

  4. I love the pallet art-very creative. I think the dresser and bed look so much better in the dark stain. That pale pine look which has been popular for so long looks dated in a bedroom unless it's really old furniture and even then I only like it when it's mixed with other things. Great job.

  10. Hi! I came over from Better After and love this room! I was so surprised to see the Missouri license plates (took me a second or two to realize they were ALL from Missouri..ha!). It seems like us Missourians are hardly ever represented...so go you! Congrats and now I'm off to look at the other rooms! :)
